Got this safe from Gander Mountain to hold 2 handguns a week ago. Got it because it used a key and also a combination electronic lock. uses 4 AA batteries and it drains them in less then a day. Maybe it's just mine, maybe all of them are like this, I don't know. Just make sure you don't lose the key or you will have to pick it/have it picked by a locksmith.

I have 3 different kinds of personal safes all around my house for guns. This is my favorite of the 3, and also the one that cost the least!
I've owned this safe for over a year, and love it! I really like that you can turn off the beeping noise, so you can open it without anyone knowing (hearing)it if needed. It's easy to mount and hide. I have one next to my bed, I sat it on a 2x4 to raise it 2" above my night stand and mounted it to the wall stud...then removed the 2x4 so that it floats above my night stand (in case I need to move the night stand)... I then covered it with a neutral colored hand towel, and put a lamp on top of it. You cannot see it, it does not stand out when you walk into the room. I keep the elect. combo simple & short, so that I can open it quickly & quietly half asleep, under stress and in total darkness if needed. (Practice opening it in the dark, so that you are ready if needed). I always have my guns out and ready, hidden, but within reach, and only lock my guns away when I leave the house (obvioulsly I don't have children & live alone)...but I have on occasion forgotten to pull the gun out...hense the drill in case I find myself in that situation again.
I'm very happy with this safe, and bought both my adult sons one for their handguns too! My batteries are still the original that I put in a year ago, when I got the safe (I mention this due to other review), just use good batteries (and store the back-up key in a safe place that you won't forget).

I bought one of these from Bass Pro a couple of years ago. Just enough room to store what I need and provides convenient & easy access to contents. Although it takes practice it's easy to master code entry even with no light making the contents easily accessable in an emergency. Some others have talked about their batteries being run dry but I haven't had any problems and I access my contents at least twice a day, every day. I normally change my batteries annually with the smoke detectors. Just make sure you use alkaline or lithium AA's and you shouldn't have any issues. Also be sure when installing be sure to bolt the safe to something substantial (like your house's framework) so a crook doesn't simply take off with the whole safe. After a couple of years ownership I'm happy and would recommend this product.

I have an older model of this safe and for the money it cannot be beat. No it is not a bank vault. It is a steel box with an electronic combination lock and two steel locking bolts. It has holes in the box for fastening down to floor, wall, shelf, etc. Put lithium batteries in it and it should work for 5 to 10 years. Put alkaline batteries in the wrong way and it will not work. Great for keeping a pistol or two close at hand and locked away from children and thieves. Also good for check books and jewelry.
